The swab test detects the virus in the nose or throat. We do not carry out tests on children under 10. The test is taken by one of our trained staff. Due to exceptional heavy demand nationally across the UK the results are now normally available within approximately 72 working hours from the time of the specimen’s arrival in the laboratory. Please ensure you are fully aware of the required time frame before you book your appointment.

The specimen courier collection times from Heathrow Medical Services are approximately 1.00 pm and 5.00 pm Monday to Friday and 2.30 pm and 8.30 pm on the weekends. The results are emailed to you. Additional out of hours collections can also be arranged.

A positive test means that you are currently carrying the Covid-19 virus. You should therefore self-isolate and contact your treating physician and/or 111 if you feel unwell. A negative test means that you are unlikely to be carrying the virus. If you develop Covid-like symptoms after having a negative test you should isolate, contact NHS 111 if you are in the UK and/ or your treating physician, and consider having a repeat test.

If you have any other questions regarding a negative result and self-isolating, please contact UK Border Force, the UK government website or the airport, airline or immigration authorities at your proposed destination.
